The Veterinary Faculty of Siirt University was
established on 06 June 2013 with the cabinet decree numbered 2013/4898 and
published in the Official Gazette No. 28698 dated 25.06.2013 according to
Article 30 of Law No. 2809 of 28/03/1983, dated.
Our
faculty is located in the center campus and consists of 5 departments Basic
Sciences, Preclinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Animal and Animal Nutrition
and Food Hygiene and Technology.
It has been aimed to serve the public service by conducting
all kinds of examinations, diagnoses, treatments and operations besides
education and research activities with the activities of Internal Diseases,
Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reproduction and Artificial Insemination
Departments which constitute the department of clinical sciences and conduct
education, research and diagnosis analyzes in laboratories our faculty.
As a
faculty, we would like to bring in qualified and competent veterinarians who
have knowledge on domestic and wild animal diseases and zoonotic diseases
diagnosis and treatment, increase of animal yield and production, inspection
and control of animal food. In this regard, we have a distinguished young,
dynamic staff that is willing to educate our idealist veterinarians of the
future.
Since
the most important means of livelihood of Siirt is livestock farming, the city
has high potential on livestock and it is especially suitable for clinical application;
it creates a natural education laboratory environment for students who prefer
to attend to our faculty. This situation allows our students to transfer theoretical
knowledge to practice.
One of our aims is to be able to carry out studies on
modernization of livestock farming and increase of productivity; to provide to develop
livestock farming of the region and whole country in accordance with the
necessities of the time.
With
our young and dynamic lecturers, we are taking steps to identify problems
related to health and livestock in the local and universal dimension, to
produce solutions, to progress and to give direction to politics in these issues.
The students who graduate from Veterinary Faculty receive
the title of "Veterinarian" and get "Veterinary Diploma/ Degree
in Veterinary/BS degree". Since the duration of undergraduate program is 5
years, the graduation certificates they receive are "MS Diploma".
Graduates with sufficient achievement averages can be accepted to academic life
by starting with the direct "Doctorate/PhD" program.
Among the job opportunities of veterinarians are, animal
products processing facilities such as farms, meat and milk; research
institutes, diagnostic laboratories, feed factories, pharmaceuticals, vaccines
and biologics related to agricultural, livestock, health or environment related
ministries, private clinics, municipalities, slaughterhouses, integrated animal
husbandry enterprises, food production facilities, markets. In order to
register to Faculty of Veterinary for undergraduate program, students have to
get satisfactory score of MF-3 score type in the Transition to higher Education
Examination.
